Christopher Meloni is fully on board with Jalen Brunson’s dream of appearing on Law & Order: SVU.
After leading the New York Knicks to their first NBA championship since 1973, Brunson said his next goal was simple: “Try to get on SVU.” The Finals MVP has become well known for his friendship with Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson and is one of the Knicks’ most devoted celebrity fans.
When asked whether Brunson has what it takes to guest-star on the show, Christopher Meloni didn’t hesitate.
“Absolutely. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but he’s a world champion. He can do whatever the hell he wants.” Meloni added that Brunson has “the force of will.”
The idea has gained momentum because of Brunson’s close relationship with Hargitay. The two have exchanged public praise throughout the Knicks’ championship run, and Hargitay has described Brunson as inspiring both on and off the court. Brunson, meanwhile, has called her his favorite celebrity Knicks fan and has spoken about growing up watching Law & Order: SVU.
While no casting announcement has been made, Brunson’s cameo wouldn’t be unprecedented. Several NBA players, including Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh, have previously appeared on the long-running series.
For now, Meloni’s endorsement has only fueled speculation that Knicks fans may eventually get to see Brunson trade the basketball court for a scene alongside Benson and Stabler.
